The former Chief Minister of West Bengal Jyoti Basu passed away after a period of illness at the ago of 95.

Till Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee became the Chief Minister, it was looking like Basu would be in the chair till eternity.

Now there are tributes saying that India has lost a ‘great’ leader. This is going far over the top.Much of the ills that are plaguing the country and the state of West Bengal, in particular can be attributed to the ideas of leaders like Basu.

Basu talked a lot of the ‘historic blunder’ when his party declined the offer of him being made the Prime Minister in 1996.

There were warts with the criticism that his son benefitted from the office his father held for 23 years. But unlike the Grand Old Party where dynasties rule, there is an exception in case of the left parties and Basu’s family is no exception.

Basu and others consider the ideas of the BJP as fundamentalist while they have no qualms over the blatant pandering to the minority votes.
